Timeline & Phases
Phase I (surgery to 10 days): post-op dressings in place, removed at 3–5 days; hand hygiene with running water/soap; AROM fingers and wrist; PROM finger flexion; no orthosis | Phase II (10–14 days): sutures removed; scar management; unrestricted ROM of fingers; dynamic or static progressive orthosis as needed | Phase III (4–6 wks): regain full ROM; progressive return to all ADLs; desensitization; strengthening and functional activities; no restrictions
Notes
Indications: Grade III (locking, correctable) and IV (fixed/locked) trigger finger, or post-injection recurrence; no orthosis Phase I; if triggering persists at Phase III, consider conservative management with limited (trigger-free) ROM and orthosis to decrease inflammation; developed collaboratively by UW Health and UnityPoint Health - Meriter Rehabilitation
