Key Restrictions

Protect wounds; avoid vigorous use or WB through surgical hand until wound healed; manage scar contracture; night positioning orthosis for 2-3 months postop

Timeline & Phases

Phase 1 (0-2 wks): volar wrist/hand splint maintaining finger extension, AROM unimmobilized joints; Phase 2 (2-4 wks): finger extension orthosis, wound care, AROM with joint blocking for DIP/hook flexion; Phase 3 (4-8 wks): progressive grip and pinch strengthening, dexterity, night orthosis for 2-3 months

Notes

Night orthosis for finger extension positioning maintained 2-3 months postop; LMB dynamic PIP extension orthosis for persistent PIP contractures <35 deg once wound healed; joint blocking for DIP and hook fisting; wound may heal by secondary intention
