- Generally WBAT with AD for primary TKA, unless otherwise indicated by MD
- Key Restrictions
- Towel roll at ankle to promote knee ext and prevent heel ulcers; nothing under knee; monitor DVT (swelling, erythema, calf pain); monitor wound for infection
- Timeline & Phases
- 5 phases: Phase I (0-1 wk, hospital, PT 2x/day), Phase II (1-3 wks, transitional), Phase III (3-6 wks, OP early), Phase IV (6-12 wks, OP intermediate), Phase V (3+ months)
- Notes
- ROM goals: full ext at 0 deg and flex to 90 Phase I, 90-120 Phase II, progressing toward 0-120 Phase III; NMES for quad re-education Phase III; D/C criteria: no pain with ADLs, LE strength >=4/5, indep reciprocal stairs; OT consultation; same authorship as Lahey THA protocol
